All about Honey
Before wondering if Honey is my real name, ask yourself, "What's in a name?"
Okay, okay, I will tell you that it isn't what's on my birth certificate, but it's what my friends and family call me. And, it's the name I would have chosen for myself had I been able to talk at three minutes post-birth.
There are many things I love doing such as cooking, dancing, playing my bass, but I don't really excel at any of these and none of the aforementioned come effortlessly. Writing does. I don't know why or how, but it's the only thing I LOVE to do and I can say I'm pretty awesome at. It has taken me a long time to say that (write that) and accept it, so right now, as I've reached my 44th year on this planet, I will acknowledge I'm a gifted writer.
When I was 11, I was asked by a teacher what I wanted to be when I grew up. Without hesitation, I blurted "writer." She pressed on, and just to keep her from badgering me further I said, "an author". I mulled over this answer (she printed it in the year book and I have never felt comfortable with it) as I felt it pigeon-holed me to writing books. One day, I will write a book, but it wasn't like I'd finish school and write a best-selling novel. So, I did what all writers do, I became a journalist.
Without boring you with details, I've worked as journalist, sub-editor, editor since the early 90s in newspapers, magazines and also online. I love everything about interviewing, writing, news gatherings and putting together a jumble of words that invokes an emotional response from the reader.
Late 2015, I decided I'd reward my family and myself with a holiday. A cruise was perfect for what I wanted to do (travel without having to worry about anything). As I haven't written for my own pleasure in ages, I decided to start this blog to document the trip.
So, here it is, Cruising With Honey.
I hope you enjoy reading it and get a few chuckles along the way.
