The Grandest of them all - Pullman Quay Grand Sydney Harbour

By Cruising With Honey - 14:33

WHEN the reality smashes the expectation, then you know your friends are going to be salivating to have the same experience.

(The first of a three-part feature reviewing the accommodation, bar and dining at Pullman Quay Grand Sydney Harbour)

Sleek, elegant and oozing with style, the Pullman Sydney Quay Grand Sydney offers visitors an exceptional hotel stay that almost rivals the priceless Sydney Harbour backdrop. Entering the brightly-lit foyer on Macquarie St, my husband and I were greeted warmly and courteously, and within a few minutes were escorted to our suite.

Up to level 10, the 1-bedroom harbour view suite at the end of the hallway was our home for the night. I deliberately didn’t look up any photos of the room, as I wanted my first impression to be in the flesh. Nothing can replace that anticipation of opening a door and being surprised.

To say I was ‘surprised’ would be the understatement of the year.

The very first thing I noticed was just how large the suite was. For a one-bedroom, it certainly was bigger than other suites I’ve stayed in. As you step inside the entry, immediately to your left is a full kitchen. Hidden behind timber fascia was a laundry – complete with washer, dryer and sink – and a fridge. The warm, wood tones and modern features almost compelled me to break out my recipe book and start cooking! The oven and sink were full-sized and a slim dishwasher was also neatly tucked away. As well as a microwave and Nespresso machine, the kitchen comes fully stocked with cutlery and table wear. This kitchen has everything!

Walking in further, a chic table for four and lounge room is furnished in warm tones. A double sofa, two arm chairs and coffee table, plus a flat screen wall-mounted TV, create a relaxed ambiance for the view that is sure to steal your breath.

Floor to ceiling windows deliver an incomparable view of Circular Quay. The Harbour Bridge is directly ahead and you don’t have to strain your neck far to spy the Opera House. Luckily for us, the Carnival Spirit (WATCH MY VIDEO OF THE SPIRIT DEPARTING) was docked at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, appearing so close I felt I could reach out and touch her!

In all honesty, I could have been extremely satisfied to plop myself down on the comfy lounge and watch the harbour all day. It was so calming, quiet and exciting all at the same time. This might sound silly, but for a moment, I felt like a celebrity! Spoiled in a beautiful room with every modern feature at my fingertips and a priceless view to gaze at. Sigh

Venturing out onto the balcony, I breathed in the sea air and then looked down. At all times of the day, Circular Quay is busy, and today was no exception. However except for the slight hum of traffic from the Cahill Expressway, it was rather quiet up on level 10.

As I went to check out the bedroom, I was once again impressed with the size. Lots of wardrobe space, drawers and other nooks to store your luggage and clothes. The floor-to-ceiling windows from the lounge room carried through to the bedroom giving you an incredible view right from the bed. The room was bright and flooded with natural light. Again, I was tempted to jump onto the bed, watch TV, order hot chocolate and NOT move for eleventy-hundred hours.

The biggest yelp of joy was yet to come. As a water baby, the most relaxed I feel is when I’m near  –  or on – the sea. The second is when I’m in a bath. And when that bath comes with multiple jets, well I’m kinda in heaven.

The bathroom was amazing! Huge mirrors and marble everywhere. There was a big enough vanity to spread out all my makeup, and a large shower with a glass shower screen. In addition, beautiful complimentary toiletries and wonderful lighting. If only I could pick up this bathroom and transport it home.

As we were due for cocktails at Hacienda followed by diner at Q Dining soon, it was time to get all dolled up. Rugged up in my fluffy bathrobe, I took a few moments to sip on an espresso and just revel in the beauty of a Sydney sunset. The sky scrapers reflected the golden light and I felt immensely lucky to be able to witness such splendour.

What a magnificent place to be, surrounded by a sumptuous setting and enveloped by so many luxuries.
